America’s Next Top Gear

title pun “credit” to eingy

I’ve been downloading episodes of Top Gear again, getting caught up on stuff now that it’s not being shown on Discovery anymore. And when it does resume, it’s apparently going to be a “US Version” which is basically going to suck.

Man, I wish more shows had the production values, and the style that Top Gear does. Their sort of ridiculous approach to everything is charming in and of itself, but the sheer *style* that exudes from their photography, and with which they deliver the dialogue is just incredible. I’ll leave an episode running while I’m cleaning a room, just to listen to it. Not to mention the use of music is fabulous – there’s always some perfectly-timed piece of music that fits exactly with whatever it is they’re doing at the time…

I’d love to see more shows with the production values of Top Gear, but I can’t really imagine what. A cooking show? Oh yeah.

Yeah, I’m constantly amazed by the production values of the show. Maybe not “value” because they don’t spend a lot (although there is value to it), but the production competence or whatever. Everything is so well put together.

I also like the music. They did a bit on some Ferrari one season and they used the opening bars of some song and it was great. I knew it from somewhere and scoured my music collection until I identified it.

Compare it to a show like Motorweek. I like Motorweek, but it’s as exciting as toast.

And despite a show that’s “just about cars”, they always come up with new stuff to entertain me.

Did you see the season premier from Sunday? The three guys made a convertible out of a Renault Espace. Not super funny until they started testing it. I was cracking up.

And then they had a “celebrity” that nobody could identify run their track … well I don’t want to give away how they dealt with him. Cringe worthy but funny.

Is it the episode where the main bigger guy bent the that holds the shape of the fabric cover of the convertible in totally the wrong direction? That was pretty funny.

“Well Spoken Man” indeed. That episode was pretty hilarious. I loved the part where Jeremy had the cutoff saw, and the heat from cutting the window support off shattered the glass.

And yeah, bending the conduit the wrong way was pretty good. 😀

Did you see the episode with the Veyron? Holy crap.
