A Good Start

Finished the simple task of culling my “nostalgia” t-shirts from the closet – stuff I never, ever wear, or wear, but is really shabby, but keep for nostalgic reasons, then took Mobius for a walk around the lake, with Ei-Nyung, as the clock passed midnight. A satisfying way to start the new year, with a bit of organization, and physical activity.

It strikes me now how much I sound like Calvin’s (of Calvin & Hobbes) father – “Builds character!” I suppose that’s one of the signs of getting older, but still, ick. 😀

I should, but I don’t think I will ever cull my nostalgia t-shirts. I have about a drawer full of them. I wear them sometimes around the house, but rarely.

But they have a lot of meaning to me. I figure I can make up the space somewhere else if it’s really necessary.

I thought you were going to chuck them. I’m a weirdo that has a heightened sense of nostalgia. Stupid little pieces of crap will make me remember events and I don’t want to let go of them. Like a ticket stub for a bus ride somewhere in Europe. If I didn’t throw it out while there, and it makes it all the way back to the U.S., I’ll likely never throw it away.

After each of our trips, I usually end up with a folder of these kinds of things.

In any case, my point is that I’m big on nostalgia from items. My wife, OTOH, has none. She throws anythng out that she has no need for. She doesn’t associate events with inanimate objects like me.

I have nostalgic sports jerseys, but that’s about it. I have a Chris Spielman jersey that I’ll probably be buried in.

I’m highly nostalgic too, but it’s mostly about things that have to do with my grandmother or a drawing I’ve done.

I don’t smoke, but on the day my grandmother died my father bought about five cartons of Marlboros and I took the keychain that came with the deal. I used to have it attached to my daily keys, but after losing the set three times (and miraculously finding them as many) I retired the keychain and it sits in a cup at my bedside.

I can still remember back at IGN we were talking about what we’d take from our homes if one of them were ever on fire and while everyone was like “My copy of Encino Man!”, A_B was quick to say he’d take his pictures. Smart guy, that one…

Holy shit. You have a better memory of stuff I’ve said than I do.

I hardly remember anything from IGN other than the first few posts I had about religion.

    And you on the webcam.
